Napalm Death gig

I went to see Napalm Death playing at the Birmingham Academy yesterday – something of a homecoming. Or as singer Mark “Barney” Greenway put it, “This is where usually say ‘We’re Napalm Death from Birmingham’ but you know that so… ‘We’re Napalm Death, from Sparkhill, Acock’s Green and… Great Barr.'”

They were very, very good, not actually as loud as some bands I’ve seen. I felt only slightly out of place, surrounded by black clad metallers. The mosh was a bit of an issue, one of those very loose types consisting of 10-20 idiots sprawling violently over most of the room, meaning those at the back couldn’t get close enough to see, and those in the front three rows were constantly pushing away the moshers behind them. Call me an old man, but it kind of spoils the vibe a little…

Anyway, plenty of fun had by all and NO SMOKE, yay!!
